Operation Elveden: Sun's crime reporter arrested over alleged corrupt payments
"Anthony France, the Sun’s crime reporter has been arrested by detectives investigating illegal payments to public officials, sources at the newspaper have confirmed."
"Mr France was arrested at his home in Hertfordshire on suspicion of conspiracy to corrupt and conspiracy to cause misconduct in a public office, and was taken to a north London police station for questioning.
Mr France joined the Sun in 2004 and has been responsible for a string of exclusive stories.
One of his first scoops was an undercover investigation which exposed serious security flaws at the Palace of Westminster.
The day after hunt protestors stormed the House of Commons, Mr France revealed how he was able to smuggle a fake bomb into the building.
Having landed a job as a waiter, using fake references, he was able to gain access to secure parts of Westminster bringing him into close contact with senior politicians including the then Deputy Prime Minister, John Prescott.
Just two weeks ago Mr France revealed how five Scotland Yard officers involved in the phone hacking and payments probe had been axed or forced to resign over alleged misconduct."
Spinning fabricated tales to The Sun ‘newspaper’ will not stop anti-corruption campaign
"The Sun has no credibility left in real journalism and even covered up corruption in Nottinghamshire Police in 2011 – a fact Simon Tomlin uncovered when he spoke to ‘crime’ reporter Anthony France at Wapping.
Anthony France was arrested just weeks ago on suspicion of bribing corrupt police officers and public officials. We are told France is trying to strike a deal with the Metropolitan Police to avoid criminal prosecution."
