Our Lady's Grammar, Newry, parents contacted over offenders
"A school in Newry has sent letters to parents following claims two convicted sex offenders were living nearby.
Our Lady's Grammar School sent the notes home on Monday, informing parents that pupils had been reminded by staff about the need for vigilance when it comes to their personal safety.
It is understood that the offenders are no longer living at the address.
Sinn Féin councillor Charlie Casey has organised a public meeting after parents raised their concerns with him.
Speaking ahead of Thursday's meeting, Mr Casey said: "People are naturally worried for the safety of themselves and their children. The PSNI have confirmed that the two men have been removed from that particular house but they cannot confirm where they are now living.
"I would appeal for people to be calm in this situation. Thursday's private meeting will give the community the opportunity to raise concerns with the police and have their queries answered."
SDLP assembly member Dominic Bradley said he had talked to the police about the issue.
"The prospect of registered sex offenders living in close proximity to a school is deeply concerning and I have been contacted by parents and residents living in the area," he said.
"I have raised the concerns of the local community with the agencies involved, particularly the PSNI.""
