Sex offender ban ruled illegal in Orange County

"SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — A sex offender law in Orange County that bans some people from visiting parks and beaches has been ruled illegal by a panel of judges.

The panel recently issued its ruling after overturning the conviction of a registered sex offender who was sentenced to 100 days in jail after he went to a party at a park in Fountain Valley.

The Orange County district attorney's office said it would continue to enforce the law. However, Sheriff Sandra Hutchens has asked her department to stop enforcing it. Nearly half the 34 cities in Orange County have adopted the law.

The panel of judges has asked the state appellate court to review the decision."
