City rescinding registered sex offender law
"LAKE FOREST, Calif. — The cost of defending lawsuits is forcing a Southern California city to rescind a law banning registered sex offenders in parks.
The Lake Forest City Council voted 4-0 on Tuesday night to repeal the law passed a year ago.
A second vote is needed on Dec. 18 before the law is repealed.
The Orange County Register (http://bit.ly/11TQsGG) says the city is facing a federal lawsuit filed in September by an anonymous registered sex offender who says the ban violates his constitutional rights.
City Attorney Scott Smith says the lawsuit could cost up to $250,000 to defend.""
