ACPO responds to Tom Winsor's speech on police and prevention of crime
"ACPO lead on crime prevention Deputy Chief Constable David Zinzan said:
"The response to Tom Winsor's speech today has demonstrated a consensus across the police family that crime prevention is at the core of the British policing model.
"Given the choice the public want crime to be prevented, rather than seeing offenders convicted for carrying out that crime.
"I am working with colleagues up and down the country to ensure a greater emphasis on crime and anti-social behaviour prevention delivered with our strategic partners.
"Preventing crime involves using intelligence and technology to target criminals and crime hotspots, having neighbourhood officers on the streets getting to know communities and resolving problems, and working with planners to design out crime.
"The police service will continue to use tried and test strategies and look for new evidence based initiatives to prevent crime.""
