The area of memory, particularly memory for abuse, has recently seen new, highly publicized claims. Nine Cleared Of Sex Charges Against Girl, 14, After Tweets

"A trial of nine men accused of sex offences against a 14-year-old girl in East London has been thrown out on day one due to new evidence from Twitter.

140 police officers were involved in dawn raids in March and the nine men were arrested and charged with 25 counts, including rape.

LBC 97.3's Joe Pike reports from the Old Bailey: "There were claps and cheers in the public gallery as the judge announced the nine men were free.

"All the men were in their 20s and denied the counts against them, mostly rape.

"Samantha Cohen from the Prosecution told the court the contents of a recently-discovered Twitter account belonging to the alleged victim meant there was no realistic prospect of conviction.""

Hampton woman to be sentenced today for lying about sexual assault

"A Hampton woman who invented a sexual assault that sent an innocent man to prison is set to be sentenced today, clearing the way for the Virginia Court of Appeals to consider clearing his name.

Elizabeth Paige Coast, 23, falsely accused Johnathan C. Montgomery of sexually assaulting her in 2000 when she was 10 years old. She pleaded guilty in May to perjury and faces up to 10 years in prison when sentenced in Hampton Circuit Court this afternoon."

"Cathy Richardson Cathy Richardson was jailed for perverting the course of justice

A woman who falsely claimed she had been raped has been jailed for a year.

Cathy Richardson, 26, from Viking Court in Shoebury, Essex, told officers she had been sexually assaulted several times over two months in 2012 by a man she knew.

A man was arrested on suspicion of rape but was later released without charge after a series of interviews.

"The police claim that because some random stranger (not my doctor or a relative) called them and claimed that I had threatened to commit suicide on my twitter feed… and despite the fact that this was not supported by any actual evidence …this entitled them to ignore all established protocol and remove my rights as a valid and credible person in my own right… and treat me like I was a dangerous mental health patient.

Me and my family are currently grieving a suicide, but we are not suicidal… nor would I ever consider leaving my family in such a way… nor would I post about such a subject in that way on twitter! Have you lost your senses? What right do you have to assume I have lost mine.

The police had no rights to undermine my mental health credibility in such an abusive appallingly prejudice and aggressive way (certainly not on an unsupported hoax call) they had no right to force me to ‘bring in’ two adults to speak for me … what if I could not find two adults to speak for me that night?"

Cumbria police infringed man's human rights, rules High Court judge

"Cumbria police unlawfully infringed a teacher’s human rights by refusing to remove detail of a woman’s harassment allegation from a “criminal record certificate” available to potential employers, a High Court judge has ruled.

The force's decision was a “disproportionate and unjustifiable” breach of the 44-year-old man’s right to private life, enshrined in the European Convention on Human Rights, said Mr Justice Stuart-Smith.

Police had investigated the 18-year-old’s complaint and concluded that “no further action” should be taken and disclosure of the allegation had dealt a “killer blow” to the teacher’s employment prospects, said the judge.

The physical education teacher - who cannot be named for legal reasons - is expected to seek damages.

Mr Justice Stuart-Smith announced his decision in a written ruling after a hearing at the High Court in London in March."

Teacher awarded €700,000 for sex abuse probe failings

"A FORMER secondary school teacher has been awarded €700,000 damages against the HSE over the manner in which it inquired into sexual abuse allegations against him.

Mr Justice Iarfhlaith O'Neill severy criticised the manner in which the investigation was conducted, saying the teacher was clearly targeted by the area health board and the HSE.

The judge said the actions of the HSE had the consequence of irreparably destroying the life of the teacher."

"AM was found dead at his home in Luton after denying sex assault charges in court

A hospital worker from Luton suspended over an alleged sexual assault was allowed back to work and abused [allegedy] 14 more victims, a report has revealed.

AM, 28, was accused of carrying out abuse on the stroke ward at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital between October 2008 and January 2011.

He took his own life before the case came to court."
