"The Sabine Parish Coroner has released the identity of a man shot to death when answering the door.

The body of 72-year-old Jerry Wayne Scott was found in the doorway at his home in the 1300 block of Matthews Lodge Road in Many on Saturday morning, according to Sabine Parish Assistant Coroner Ron Rivers.

Rivers said that Scott's body was found lying face up on the living room floor of his mobile home.
It is believed that Scott went to answer a knock at the front door of the home when an unknown gunman fired a single shot through the storm door.

The gunshot hit Scott in the upper chest, killing him instantly.

Investigators are treating the incident as a hate crime.

Scott was a registered sex offender in the state of Louisiana. He was charged with simple kidnapping in 1981 and 1994. He was charged with indecent behavior with juveniles and sexual battery in 2004.

No motive has been established. No word on suspects.

An autopsy has been scheduled at University Health on Sunday morning to determine the exact cause of death."

Parents welcome decision to move paedophile [sic] from living near Peel Brow School and Nursery, Ramsbottom

"Emergency services, council officers and Six Town Housing staff were present at the demonstration, which passed off peacefully.

The man was subsequently moved out of the house and it was boarded up.

The protest was organised by Paul Honey, a parent with four daughters who lives on the Peel Brow Estate and who went from house-to-house collecting signatures.

Another of the parents involved in the protest was mum-of-three Janine Holt, who welcomed the decision to move the man.

She said: “It shouldn’t have happened in the first place, him living there, but it is a good result.

“The whole estate found out he was living there on Friday and by Monday he had gone.”

The 33-year-old man is believed to have been living at the property for approximately three months.

Ms Holt, whose 10-year-old daughter is a pupil at Peel Brow School, said when she first found out she was “absolutely disgusted”.

She added: “My daughter has to walk past that property every day to school, and it backs on to the playground.

“We were all ready to stop our kids going to school until he had gone.

“Since we found out we have not allowed our children to play out in the street.”

Another parent, Becci Mills, aged 33, who also has a five-year-old who goes to Peel Brow School, said: “It’s really scary as parents.

“I just can’t believe that they put him on this estate, with kids and especially near the school.

“We have all stuck together and we have got what we wanted.”

Six Town Housing said it only manages properties, and that Bury Council is responsible for where residents are placed.

A council spokesman said: “We can confirm that the family living at this address have been moved out into temporary accommodation and we will be looking at options to rehouse them.

“We are working with a range of partners to ensure the safety of the family and the community.”"

Very rarely, and very unfortunately, in a world of erring human beings, there is a coincidence of a number of circumstances, which leads to a terrible tragedy.

Sarah Payne, James Bulger, Madeleine McCann, April Jones etc, the list is relatively short, but very real. This is where parental responsibility has been lacking, even dangerously-lacking, but, paths have been crossed, with men in extreme mental states (usually), bent on carrying out unacceptable and, ultimately, devastating acts.

With these incredibly rare cases, comes the backlash, regret, grinding consciences, self and group recriminations, ill-informed, spineless and votemongering political populism, knee-jerk reactions and the dangerous input, of those with financial and other vested interests.

At these times, bad laws are created and regressed.

As he passed a convenience store, he spotted one of his daughter’s ex-boyfriends. Allegedly, he’d mistreated Julia when they were together. In a rage, Jay fired his weapon at him but the man hid and dodged the bullets. But that wasn’t Jay’s mission and he got back on track.

The father took off to where Raymond was living in Berlin, Alabama. Raymond was standing in his front yard when Jay aimed and fired two shots. Raymond dropped dead. Jay was arrested later that day and charged with first-degree murder."

Does watching porn really turn people into violent criminals? 

"One of the most controversial studies of all time – one that is often quoted by pro-pornographers – is that carried out by Danish Professor of Criminology Berl Kutchinsky. He watched the effects of legalising porn in three countries – Denmark in 1969, Sweden in 1970 and Germany in 1973.

For two decades he charted sex crimes in these territories, and concluded that sex crimes of all natures – including child molestation – fell as men had a “release” for their sexual desires before they acted on them. He concluded that free availability of porn was the “direct cause of this decrease”.

Legalizing pornography: Lower sex crime rates? Study carried out in Czech Republic shows results similar to those in Japan and Denmark

"Could legalizing pornography legal lead to lower rates of sex crimes?

A new study tackles this controversial question.

Results from the Czech Republic showed that rape and other sex crimes have not increased following the legalization and wide availability of pornography.
 

In addition, the study finds that the incidence of child sex abuse has fallen since 1989, when child pornography became readily accessible."
