Of course, anyone who is not lying, or has a modicum of knowledge and/or principles, knows, that these search terms would never bring up any potentially-illegal images, and have not been able to do so, for many years; knowing that, there is no intention, here or elsewhere, to do so. We do know, that they will be on 'the list'.

Bing, first. SafeSearch off. We could turn images off, but, we will take Microsoft's word for it, as a newbie will.

We have no idea what the 100,000 possible search terms could be !!!

Now, the zealots, profiteers and simpletons, will be jumping up-and-down, for joy, about that result (not that it stops anything, that really matters, of course).

However, the bonafide researcher and Libertarian should be very concerned, indeed.

Image searches lead, often more rapidly, to very valuable (re)sources ... for example, court documents, media reports, related cases and issues etc. etc. etc.

This is, of course, the (predicted and usual) danger of knee-jerk, blanket, censorship.

This is a private company, Microsoft, throwing the baby out with the bath water, for popularity and profit.

This is the false flag, which is (and has been, for a long time) to be used, for all topics, which are, or will be, deemed to be unacceptable, for our consumption.

This is where we are in 2013 ... and it has little to no point (as suggested), at all.

"Pulling out the stops

Google and Microsoft have really pulled out the stops. This is a very impressive initiative. It is narrowing the spaces in which paedophiles [sic] and collectors of child abuse images [sic] can operate. The challenge now is to work out how to gauge the effectiveness of and learn from the various measures that are being put in place but I am sure there is a will so we can find a way.

The beginning of a new phase

This is unlikely to be the end of the story but there is no question we have reached an important milestone. There are still anxieties about the Darknet and the true extent to which it and the use of encryption may continue to frustrate law enforcement’s and everybody’s efforts. But we don’t always have to do the really hard stuff first. Dealing with the more open parts of the internet has to be a key priority precisely because it is so accessible and therefore has the greater potential to draw in new offenders. All the companies involved deserve a great deal of credit for their willingness to sail into these uncharted waters and so does Claire Perry MP and the Government as a whole for sticking with the issue in the way that they have. I await with interest to see how what is happening in the UK starts to roll out or impact other jurisdictions."

"The Microsoft system, known as PhotoDNA, was co-developed by a team at Dartmouth and has since been donated to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Earlier this year, Twitter began using it to scan every photo that's uploaded to its site.

The program works by scanning known images of child pornography and giving them a unique signature that goes into a database. If that image appears on another site, it is instantly flagged and removed. Google has its own proprietary tagging system that works in a similar way.

But in order for an image to be identified as child pornography in the first place, a person has to review it. The people who do that work for tech companies are employed all over the world, and very little is known about them, says Sarah Roberts of Western University in Ontario, Canada."

Efforts to end child pornography have been ineffective

"In continuing this internet blockade against child pornography, Google has also proposed a solution, a database of “encrypted” child porn images that is said to enable some companies and law enforcement to further collaborate on detecting and removing these photos from the possession of predators.

Google uses technology known as “hashing,” which is similar to Facebook’s photo tagging capabilities.

"A computer alarm system that warns paedophiles [sic] they have been discovered trying to access child porn online will be launched this week.

Savile researcher at abuse conference in Belfast

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 I seek the following information.

With reference to the sheer quantity of information that was placed on HOLMES 2 following Operation Ore, I understand that it was necessary to give several uniformed police officers temporary status as Temporary Detective Constables in order to assist with enquires to be actioned, including within Surrey Police.

1. Could you please confirm whether Mr Mark Williams-Thomas was one of those uniformed officers.

2. Could you please inform me whether Mr Mark Williams-Thomas has ever sat/passed the National Investigators Exam (NIE); completed an Initial Crime Investigators Development Programme (ICIDP); PIP Level 2 Portfolio; or otherwise be entitled to be referred to as having attained the rank of Detective Constable without use of the word 'Temporary' or 'Acting'. ('T.D.C. or A.D.C.')

3. Could you please confirm whether all those interviews, actioned by HOLMES 2, if carried out by Mr Mark Williams-Thomas, were formally and specifically requested by his supervising officer.

4. Was there any discrepancy between the formally requested number of interviews assigned to Mr Williams-Thomas and the number of interviews actually carried out by Mr Williams-Thomas? If so, could you please inform me how many of the interviewees had already been interviewed by other police officers.

5. If the answer to 4. is affirmative, could you please inform me whether you had reason to carry out any preliminary or informal disciplinary investigations with regard to additional interviews conducted with alleged sexual offenders by Mr Williams-Thomas.

6. Would Mr Williams-Thomas have been eligible for promotion within the Detective squad, Temporary, Acting or otherwise, had he not chosen to resign?

7. Following Mr Williams-Thomas' arrest at Gatwick Airport Hotel (not airport, so within your 'area') for alleged blackmail - a matter I am aware has since been satisfactorily discharged by the magistrates with NO stain on his character, could you please confirm whether a separate investigation was carried out at the same time by officers from the Surrey Police Force internal investigation department, concerning other matters NOT connected with the alleged Blackmail?

8. Can you please confirm whether any papers, notes, records, photographs, digital electronic communications or equipment, which identified names or action plans from HOLMES 2, were removed from Mr Williams-Thomas' home or person for inspection during such additional investigation.

9. Could you please tell me whether the outcome of such investigation resulted in any report to The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP)?

10. Could you please tell me whether any subsequent internal report was prepared by CEOP?

11. If the answer to 10. is affirmative, could I please have a copy of such report?

12. Could you please give me copies of any advice subsequently issued by CEOPS to the Portuguese Police in respect of Mr Williams-Thomas' presence in Portugal on behalf of any British television company.

13. Could you please give me copies of any such advice issued by CEOPS to any British Police Force in respect of official press conferences open to accredited British reporters.

14. Could you please tell me whether you have been required to furnish any information concerning Mr Williams-Thomas activities whilst a serving Police Officer within your force to the investigating officers concerned with the charges laid against Mr Max Clifford under Operation Yewtree.

14. Could you please advise me of the contents of any communication you have had with the Portuguese authorities specifically referencing Mr Williams-Thomas between July 1st 2013 and August 20th 2013.

I would prefer to receive this information electronically.

If you search for child abuse on Bing - Microsoft will know

"Microsoft’s Bing search engine has become the first in the world to introduce pop-up notifications for those who decide to seek out child abuse content including child pornography. The system will be launching in the United Kingdom first.

The new system will first notify users that they are searching for illegal content and offer details on available counseling services.

Yahoo, which uses Bing search results, says it may also be implementing a similar technology in the future. Google on the other hand, states that it will continue to report material, but has no plans to use pop-up notifications."

It is all very reminiscent, of the Windows file delete (not) process.
