Politician and paedophile [sic] ask Google to 'be forgotten'

"Google has received fresh takedown requests after a European court ruled that an individual could force it to remove "irrelevant and outdated" search results, the BBC has learned.

An ex-politician seeking re-election has asked to have links to an article about his behaviour in office removed.

A man convicted of possessing child abuse images [IIOC] has requested links to pages about his conviction to be wiped.

And a doctor wants negative reviews from patients removed from the results.

Google itself has not commented on the so-called right-to-be-forgotten ruling since it described the European Court of Justice judgement as being "disappointing"."

For instance, for anyone sentenced to less than six months in prison, their conviction has become spent after two years. Spent convictions typically do not need to be disclosed to employers, but it's easy to see how a Google search result could void any possible benefit from the act."

Hewitt apologises over PIE links 

"An NCCL press release published in March 1976 with only Ms Hewitt's name on it called for both the age of consent to be lowered to 10 and for incest to be legalised, according to The Sun.

The document, the newspaper claims, says: "NCCL proposes that the age of consent should be lowered to 14, with special provision for situations where the partners are close in age, or where consent of a child over ten can be proved."

Referring to an NCCL report on reforming sex laws, it reportedly says: "The report argues that the crime of incest should be abolished. It says, 'In our view, no benefit accrues to anyone by making incest a crime when committed between mutually consenting persons over the age of consent'."

The Sun also claimed to have seen minutes of an NCCL executive committee meeting in London in January 1976 which proposed reforms saying that a person under the age of 10 in a sexual relationship is incapable of giving consent.

But, the minutes said, if a sexual partner is over 10 and under 14, while there is a "rebuttable presumption" that no consent was given, a defendant "should have to prove that the child consented and understood the nature of the act to which consent was given".

Ms Hewitt, a former health secretary, acknowledged that it had been NCCL policy to cut the age of consent - although she said the proposal to do so had not been hers.

"I do not support reducing the age of consent or legalising incest," Ms Hewitt said. "As the NCCL archives demonstrate, I consistently distinguished between consenting relationships between homosexual men, on the one hand, and the abuse of children on the other.""

"Plaintiffs' affidavits explain in detail the difficulties and embarrassment they and their families have endured as a consequence of complying with these new restrictions, even though their convictions are now almost twenty years in the past and they have led completely law-abiding, if not exemplary, lives in the interim. Their stories raise substantial questions as to the wisdom and fairness of subjecting them and similarly situated individuals to lifetime registration and notification requirements with their attendant obligations and restrictions. But given the previous decisions addressing the issues Plaintiffs raise, I conclude that the relief, if any, must come from the legislative branch. With one limited exception, the fact that the restrictions are difficult and cumbersome is not enough to make them unconstitutional. For the most part, the amendments to the Wisconsin sex offender registry system do not depart in any meaningful way from the systems already found to be constitutional by the Bollig and Smith Courts.

The lone exception I find to this is the $100 fine provision, which I have concluded cannot be constitutionally imposed on them. With this exception, Defendants' motion for summary judgment is GRANTED and Plaintiffs' motion for summary judgment is DENIED. The Clerk is directed to enter judgment declaring that imposition of the $100 annual fee on Plaintiffs pursuant to Wis. Stat. § 301.45(10) constitutes punishment in violation of their rights under the ex post facto clauses of the United States and Wisconsin constitutions and enjoining Defendants from assessing or collecting such amount from Plaintiffs. All other claims against Defendants are dismissed with prejudice."

"THOUSANDS OF elderly British men convicted of homosexual offences before homosexuality was decriminalised in 1967 will be able to have their criminal records erased under new legislation promised before the 2010 general election by Conservative leader and prime minister David Cameron.

Under the Protection of Freedoms Act, gay or bisexual men convicted before 1967 of gross indecency or consensual gay sex with over-16 year olds, or of “loitering with intent” under section 4 of the Vagrancy Act 1824 – the offence often used by police when evidence of sexual relations did not exist – will be able to apply.

The age of consent for legal homosexual sex – set at 21 in 1967 – was reduced in 1994 to 18, and six years later reduced to 16.
