Introduce a statute of limitations for sexual offences - e-petitions

Following the recent high-profile acquittals of Nigel Evans, Dave Lee Travis, William Roche etc, it is clear that a statute of limitations must be introduced for historic allegations.

For an offence under section 9 or 15 of the Sexual Offences Act (sexual activity with person under 16) a limitation of 12 months should be re-introduced. This limitation existed for the equivalent offence under pre-2003 legislation.

For an offence of rape, sexual assault etc, a limitation of between 2 and 3 years should be introduced.

For sections 5 through 9 (sexual activity with person under 13) a limitation of 10 years should be introduced. A longer period is called for as children that age are often reluctant to report such an offence.

For all other sexual offences, a limitation of 5 years should be introduced.

These limitations of statute would bring an end to the misery suffered by those people who are falsely accused out of spite, years after the alleged "offences" took place."

Doncaster woman cleared of child porn charges changes name

"A woman cleared of child porn charges in a case involving a pop star has changed her name.

Joanne Mjadzelics, of Thorne Road, Doncaster, has now swapped her name by deed poll after being cleared by Cardiff Crown Court last month.

The former girlfriend of paedophile rocker Ian Watkins, singer of the Lostprophets, revealed she had made the change in a radio interview.

She said: “It has completely destroyed me because I have not been able to work.”

Ms Mjadzelics said the charges meant people were not interested in giving her a job.

And she faced major expense paying for her accommodation while she was on trial which meant she was now struggling financially.

Now the former escort says she hopes to get involved with helping prostitutes get off the streets and turn their lives around.

She said: “There is nothing in Doncaster. I want to see if there’s a way to get them off drugs and off the streets.”"

Sex attack victim says court ruling has taken his rights away

"THE victim of a paedophile [sic] Anglican priest believes his human rights have been taken away by a court ruling.

He is angry the Rev GC at some stage could appeal to have his name taken off the Sex Offenders’ Register.

It follows a Supreme Court decision that placing offenders on the list for life breaches their rights.

The victim, now in his 40s, who cannot be named, said: “His human rights? What about mine?

“He took my human rights away when he abused me, so it gave me fulfilment when he was jailed and put on the register.

“Now it feels like he’s getting his human rights back and mine are being taken away again.

“The register is to protect the person who’s been abused and other potential victims.

“There’s a saying, ‘Once a paedophile, always a paedophile’, so he should remain on the register for life.”"
