Suicide suspected in child-porn case

"A Gahanna man who was due in federal court yesterday on a child-pornography charge was found dead in the morning of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.

JAM, 71, was scheduled for a 10:15 a.m. arraignment that could have resulted in a guilty plea or bond revocation, said Joseph Landusky, his attorney. M could have faced a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison if convicted of possessing pornography."

Affidavit: Convicted sex offender in Molunkus was forced to take fatal overdose

"A man who committed suicide on Interstate 95 on March 11 told police during the standoff leading up to his death that he killed LL of Molunkus Township because the convicted sex offender was molesting children, court documents show.

Bruce Heal, aka Bruce King, told Penobscot County Sheriff’s Deputy Patty McLaughlin shortly before he shot himself with a .30-30 rifle that he forced L to swallow two bottles of nitroglycerin and one bottle of “psych meds,” according to a search warrant affidavit released Wednesday at Lincoln District Court."

Dad denies using daughter in child-porn extortion plot after professor's suicide

"FBI agents say a blackmail scheme concocted by another man who used photos of an underage girl in a catfish scam may have caused a Texas A&M professor to commit suicide.

A Louisiana man denied on Tuesday that he used his daughter to lure a college professor into a sexually explicit online relationship and then blackmailed him.

The professor, JAA, of Texas A&M University, jumped to his death from the roof of a campus parking garage in January after paying part of an alleged demand for $5,000, sending a text to the man saying "Killing myself now. And u will be prosecuted for black mail."

Authorities allege that A, 59, was one of many victims of the same scam by the man. The Associated Press isn't naming him to protect the identity of his daughter."

Russia's Supreme Court backs bill on life isolation of pedophiles [sic]

"MOSCOW, December 24 – RAPSI. Russia's Supreme Court has backed the bill allowing to banish pedophiles [sic] to reservations after they are released from prison, Izvestia reported on Monday.

The bill sponsored by Senator Yevgeny Tarlo is aimed at isolating pedophiles [sic] from the society for life.

According to the bill, there should be a total of ten reservations in Russia for pedophiles. [sic]"

A special panel tasked with looking at alternatives to Minnesota's costly, high-security program for dangerous sex offenders recommended state legislators consider less restrictive regional treatment facilities.

The Minnesota Sex Offender Program confines and treats the most dangerous offenders under the court's direction after they have finished their prison sentences. The offenders, which now number more than 600, are confined to high-security treatment facilities at an annual cost of about $120,000 per offender."
