Children are safer in the park than their own bedrooms [sic], says NSPCC
"A landmark report by the NSPCC claims that children are safer from strangers playing out in the street or in the park than in their own bedrooms.
They say we need to change the way we teach children about 'stranger danger' to take into account emerging threats [sic] in today's society from dangers online such as sexting, cyber bullying and meeting people online in chat rooms.
Meanwhile the report, billed as the comprehensive study of risks to children in the UK, also warns only a small a fraction of abuse or neglect in the home is being detected.
The report overall shows a significant long-term decline in violence against children in comparison with previous decades, contrary to public perceptions, but major new threats emerging through the internet.
Child murder, for example, is down by 30 per cent since the early 1980s and serious assault involving children have also declined steadily as have child suicide rates in most of the country.
But with children as young as five spending up to six hours a week on the internet, a quarter of 11 and 12 year-olds now see something which worries them on the internet every day, it warns.
Online threats which our children are facing include cyber bullying and receiving sexually explicit messages, seeing sexually explicit images and meeting strangers on the internet.
Lisa Hawker, author of the report, said: “We are still trying to fully understand the scale of online harm but children are telling us that cyberbullying, sexting and seeing sexual images online are things that many of them are experiencing."

Islington gran keeps children at home for fear of paedophile [sic] attacks
"A woman’s desperation to protect her three grandchildren from a predatory paedophile [sic] has led to her being threatened with prosecution for keeping them out of school.
The grandmother claims the children – the youngest aged just six – have been “groomed” by her daughter’s sex-offender ex-boyfriend and is refusing to let them leave the house alone.
She stepped in to look after the youngsters because of their mother’s alcohol and drugs problem and says she lives in permanent fear that the paedophile [sic] – only recently released from prison after sexually assaulting a young child – will target them.
Now she is bidding to convince three Appeal Court judges that Islington Council – which has written to her threatening prosecution if she doesn’t send the children to school – is unreasonably refusing to recognise the severe risk of abuse."

Local Sex Offenders Not Guilty !!!

Reward for missing boy, 13-year-old Dylan Redwine, raised
"For more than a month now, investigators have searched that area. A task force remains active and this week they brought a bloodhound from New Mexico to do spot searches. Those searches have turned up nothing.
Authorities also tracked down the rest of the sex offenders they wanted to talk to who were registered in the area.
All had alibis at the time Dylan disappeared."

Witch Hunt Mentality
Date: 5 November 2012
Worthwhile Danish drama exploring the witch hunt mentality around paedophilia
"Ultimately The Hunt demonstrates how quickly the veneer of ‘civilization’ can be stripped away, and equally how swiftly ‘normality’ can be restored, although to the film’s credit, the coda adds a layer of ambiguity to proceedings."

Film Review: 'The Hunt'
"The fragile foundation this aggressive inquest is built around is the tentative belief that "children always tell the truth" - something anyone who's ever had the privilege of spending time with a precocious six-year-old will endlessly dispute. It's a curious idea to build such a grandiose accusation around, when the inherent fear all parents have that their children could be hurt would have easily been enough of a catalyst for this glorified witch hunt."

We Choose Our Path?
Monday 5 November 2012
Are we all condemned to live in ‘cycles of abuse’?
"It is now heresy to question the idea that child abuse damages a person for life. But such a deeply fatalistic idea must be questioned.
The abhorrence virtually all of us feel towards paedophilia makes it very difficult to have a balanced, dispassionate discussion about its harmful impact on young people.
Indeed, as we have seen in the Jimmy Savile scandal, the dramatic and highly charged language used to describe different forms of child abuse warns people off being dispassionate, by promoting the idea that the damage caused by child abuse is unique and qualitatively different to all other forms of suffering. Metaphors such as ‘scarred for life’ or ‘damaged for life’ convey the belief that victims of child abuse are literally condemned to a life-long sentence of painful suffering. The frequently repeated claim that a single act of abuse can have consequences that last a lifetime is rarely interrogated.
And yet, the impact of abuse on a child or an adult is far from straightforward. The experience of psychological trauma is different to the experience of physical trauma, in that the way people respond to such pain, the way they choose to deal with it, will greatly influence the levels of emotional damage they experience. And such responses are inevitably mediated through the prevailing system of meaning and values in our society and communities. Cultural and social contexts influence how we are expected to negotiate painful trauma. The way that the consequences of abuse are discussed in society has a significant bearing on the way they are actually experienced by the individual."
"Since Hacking wrote his study (in 1995), cycle of abuse theories have strengthened their grip on the public’s imagination. Yet when society embraces a prejudice that masquerades as research, it inevitably loses its way. Too many sensible people feel that this prejudice cannot be questioned. Which is why we need to have a more open-minded discussion about this difficult subject. Clarity about the consequences of abuse and its differential impact is in the best interests of those who have experienced it."

No, I am not scarred for life
"I was abused as a child, but I won’t define myself as ‘damaged’. I have chosen to do something more life-affirming – move on.
I have lost patience with the Jimmy Savile affair.
After weeks of prurient coverage in both the broadsheet and tabloid press, I am tired of all the probing. I am tired of the BBC posturing, and the nanny state interventionism. Tired, too, of my daily serving of sex abuse allegations. Freddie Starr… Leonard Rossiter… Tory MPs. I wake up each day wondering who the paedo du jour is going to be. And now, those who have come forward with claims of abuse against Savile are being encouraged to form an orderly queue and sue both the BBC and the Savile estate for compensation.
This is not going to be yet another column examining the culture of complicity at the BBC, the shame of the latest public figure, or the potential culpability of any organisation where abuse has been uncovered. Let’s instead look at British compensation culture and the industry behind it. And let’s examine the viewpoint of someone who has decided to reject monetary gain in favour of something altogether more life-affirming – I think it’s called moving on."

We Will Forgive The Scurrilous Opening Paragraph
Thursday 25 October 2012
Can everyone please calm down about child abuse?
"Post Savile, let us avoid deepening this atmosphere of suspicion with endless fear-fuelled inquires and regulations which can only encourage paranoia, often at the children’s expense. It will mean even more examples of adults who work with children being wary of indulging in normal, compassionate nurturing and caring such as comforting an upset child, giving a cuddle or putting on a plaster. This stand-off between adults, eyeing each other with suspicion as potential threats to children, dangerously threatens the sense of adult solidarity and partnership that’s so necessary to socialising and indeed protecting children. Surely it is tragic that adults feel awkward and impotent when they see a child in trouble, believing that attempts to reassure a distraught youngster could be misinterpreted as suspicious? Worse, by encouraging children to look at affection shown to them by adults with suspicion will inevitably poison relationships between adults and young people for many years to come.
Children have always been anxious and frightened by shadows and bogeymen. Traditionally adults’ role is to confront these irrational fears and reassure. What is novel today is the way that too many adults are institutionalising these fears as though they are real. Savile is dead, but we risk using his ghost to magnify these fears out of all proportion. We owe it to the young, and each other, to challenge this particular ‘panic attack’ before it does any more damage."

BBC apology to Savile 'victims'
"A string of police forces have received complaints about Sir Jimmy Savile
BBC director-general George Entwistle offered a "profound and heartfelt apology" to the alleged victims of Sir Jimmy Savile's sexual abuse as he announced that two inquiries would be launched.
One will look into whether there were any failings over the handling of an abandoned Newsnight investigation into the late DJ and broadcaster. A second independent inquiry will look into the "culture and practices of the BBC during the years Jimmy Savile worked here", Mr Entwistle said."

Paedophile [sic] GF, 47, who was jailed for 12 years for brutally stabbing a schoolboy in the street and sexually assaulting a young girl
A schoolboy was left with his intestines hanging from his stomach after being brutally stabbed by a paedophile [sic] on the run.
GF, 47, attacked the boy, who he did not know, with a bread knife, after being confronted by the father of a girl he sexually abused.
The boy, 17, lay bleeding on the ground but managed to call for help on his mobile phone.
The teenager underwent a four-hour operation to repair his liver, colon and other internal organs, a court heard.
F was jailed for 12 years today after admitting the 'random' street attack and sex assaults on a young girl.
The court heard how F armed himself with a bread knife after being confronted by the father of the young girl and stormed out of his home where he saw the 17-year-old boy and stabbed him three times in the abdomen.
Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court heard F had never met the boy before and saw him by chance in the street.
Prosecutor John Ryan said: 'F armed himself with a bread knife after being confronted by the girl’s father."
