"One of the most controversial studies of all time – one that is often quoted by pro-pornographers – is that carried out by Danish Professor of Criminology Berl Kutchinsky. He watched the effects of legalising porn in three countries – Denmark in 1969, Sweden in 1970 and Germany in 1973.

For two decades he charted sex crimes in these territories, and concluded that sex crimes of all natures – including child molestation – fell as men had a “release” for their sexual desires before they acted on them. He concluded that free availability of porn was the “direct cause of this decrease”.

From “looking” to “touching”? Conference on Risk in Offenders who use Child Sexual Exploitation Material ['use' what?]

"Dr Hannah Merdian is,together with Prof Derek Perkins (Surrey University & West London Mental Health NHS Trust), organising a one-day conference addressing the issue of risk assessment and risk management in working with child sexual exploitation material (CSEM) users. The conference is both for an academic audience and professionals who work with CSEM User or their victims. The conference will take place in London on the first of May and brings together a range of leadings researchers and practitioners to investigate how likely a CSEM user is to commit a contact sex offence against a child in the future? Is there a causal link between “looking” and “touching”?

Child porn: Does supply feed demand? [cf. Does Gay Porn Make People Gay?]

“The Internet offers a kind of playground with lots of opportunities for criminals [sic] in all kinds of spheres, including this one (child porn) but what is interesting, and we have an example of this in Operation Mainmise, is that the Internet also provides opportunities to police officers” to catch them, Lt. Jean Lafrenière said after a news conference detailing the operation at SQ headquarters in Montreal Thursday.

But the question of whether pedophilia [sic] is a growing phenomenon because of the greater availability of child pornography on the Internet has not been answered by researchers.

“There is no scientifically established data on that, but we have seen statistics like three to seven per cent of the population in Western democracies (having pedophilic tendencies ['CP' is not just about pre-pubescent minors, though, is it?]),” said Dr. John Bradford, a professor of psychiatry in the forensic psychiatry division of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa.

“That is a significant number but it does not differentiate between people with a sexual interest in children and those who actually molest children.”

The Cognitive Impact of Sexual Abuse and PTSD in Children: A Neuropsychological Study

Sexual abuse [sic] is known to have an impact on both child and adult mental health [no, there appears to be some correlation, in a small minority of people], but the neuropsychological basis of this effect is still largely unknown.

This study compared neuropsychological test results from a group of 76 children, 13 of them sexual abuse [sic] victims with symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, 26 victims of sexual abuse [sic] who showed no symptoms post-traumatic stress disorder, and 37 controls.

The groups were matched by age, sex, socioeconomic status, and educational level. Child sexual abuse [sic] was associated with reduced ability to inhibit automatic responses measured by the Stroop test regardless of post-traumatic stress disorder status.

These findings indicate possible attentional inhibition difficulties in child victims of sexual abuse [sic], which may help explain psychopathology associated with the experience."
