It Is 'OK' to Masturbate in Public Says Swedish Court in Landmark Ruling
"A Swedish Court recently ruled that it was "Ok" to masturbate in public after acquitting a 65-year-old man charged with sexual assault for openly masturbating on a beach in Stockholm.
According to a report in Sweden's The Local, the man was on the Drevviken beach on June 6 when he stripped himself of his shorts and started pleasuring himself close to the water triggering the sexual assault charge.
In the judgment handed down in the Södertörn District Court, however, it was noted that while it "may be proven that the man exposed himself and masturbated on this occasion," there was no evidence demonstrating that an offense was committed against a specific person.
Public prosecutor Olof Vrethammar agreed and said he didn't plan on appealing the ruling."

MP turns herself in for child porn offence
"A Swedish parliamentarian has reported herself to the police for possessing child pornography, in a bid to get Swedes to question the current laws.
Moderate Party MP Maria Abrahamsson chose on Wednesday to tell Swedish police that she may have child pornography at home. She told them that she had a copy of the Dagens Nyheter (DN) newspaper, which last weekend contained an illustration showing a child surrounded by half-naked men.
Abrahamsson is a known critic of the current Swedish law, which makes no distinction between photographs depicting sexual violation or assault of a child or children and illustrations showing similar scenarios.
According to the Svenska Dagbladet (SVD) newspaper, Abrahamsson petitioned parliament last autumn to amend the text of the law. She argued it should distinguish between photography and non-photographic art."

Hope Remains In Sweden

'Paedophile warning' note baffles Swedish town
"Several residents in Örebro, central Sweden, were shocked when they sorted through their post recently and found a detailed account of a child sex crime committed by one of their neighbours.
“Warning! This paedophile [sic] lives close to you and your children,” read the front page of the five-page document which held no information about the sender.
It contained extracts from district and Supreme Court proceedings pertaining to the case, reports local newspaper Nerikes Allehanda (NA).
The crime for which the man was convicted took place in the 1990s and resulted in a three-year prison sentence.
Having the crime described in detail led some residents in the central Sweden town to question the purpose of the handout.
“The crime that this person was convicted of was grotesque, but the sentence has been served and maybe they wanted to start over. For me, the question is when have you atoned your crime?” Susanne Engvall told the newspaper.
Some neighbours expressed concern that revealing so much detail about the crime was unfair to the victim."
