Social workers need more support in dealing with online abuse of children [sic]
"Social workers are in desperate need of specialist training in how to spot the warning signs that a child is being targeted for sexual abuse online, a survey by the British Association of Social Workers (BASW) and the NSPCC reveals.
Half of all social workers surveyed by BASW and the NSPCC said they felt concerned about dealing with online sexual abuse or behaviour. Over two thirds of social workers felt they needed more support with child protection cases involving online abuse.
Other findings from the survey included:
• Almost half (49%) of social workers said that 25% of their sexual abuse cases now involve some form of online abuse
• A third (34%) of social workers said they do not feel confident about understanding the language used by young people online
• 47% said they were not knowledgeable about how young people communicate via social networking sites
• 36% felt they did not know the right questions to ask to identify and assess online sexual abuse
• 30% said they did not feel confident dealing with child protection sexual abuse cases using the internet
• 50% say they don’t know what how to recognise the signs of the online sexual abuse of children
Comments from social workers responding to the survey included:
"We are way out of our depth and training measures are needed without delay.""

What social workers need to know about working with sex offenders [sic]
"Social work provides values and interventions that can help support convicted offenders [really, how?]
There is a lack of understanding about the risk posed to the public, especially children, by sex offenders, says Frances Robertson. [indeed]
Investing time in understanding the complexity of child sexual abuse and resources to provide solutions is often unwelcome by the public. [indeed]
Instead, society seems to find it more palatable to label and stigmatise perpetrators through high-profile investigations. [indeed]
Child sex abuse [weasel words] is universally [really?] viewed as abhorrent, but the actions of Operation Yewtree have split opinion. Some feel that alleged offenders should remain anonymous until proven guilty and believe that alleged victims should not be able to remain anonymous.
This, however, shows a lack of understanding about the risk posed to the public, especially children, by perpetrators of sexual abuse. Surely it is better for all concerned if preventive strategies are developed and an attempt is made to understand how such abusive behaviour happens in the first place." [indeed]

In our experiences, the problem is, just like the NPS, the SS are 'all' unevidenced-based, dominant narrative, establishment, robots.

'Abuse' Is Just Something 'You' Do Not Like
Thursday 27 September 2012 16.37 BST
Child sexual abuse is never consensual, whatever the victim's behaviour
"As the Rochdale case report shows, adults manipulating even teenage victims for sex is not a form of relationship, it's abuse
CCTV images showing 15-year-old Megan Stammers and her maths teacher, Jeremy Forrest, 30, who are missing. British authorities are treating Megan's case as a clear child-protection issue.
Today a report on the Rochdale child abuse case revealed that some officials believe sexually exploited children are "making their own choices". It's hardly surprising to hear that some under-16-year-olds are having sex: a one-size-fits-all age of consent doesn't accommodate individual differences. What is surprising is that the children in question weren't exploring sex with their peers, but were having sex with much older adults. Consider this scenario: A 12-year-old is repeatedly raped by a family friend who tells her it's their little secret. She doesn't scream and cry each time, she doesn't try to fight him off and she doesn't tell anyone. Did she consent to sex? No, of course not. Why then is it such a struggle for some to grasp that teenage victims of child sexual exploitation (CSE) don't consent either?"
