Men who used gay website Grindr to ensnare would-be paedophiles jailed for four years each

"TWO men who used a gay website to ensnare would-be paedophiles and blackmail them have been jailed for four years each.

The pair posed as an under-aged boy to lure two users of the Grindr website to meet for sex.

But both victims were horrified when they met up instead with blackmailers Nathanael Foster, of Wheatstone Road, Gloucester and Adam Webb, of Kingsway , Quedgeley, who demanded £15,000 from one and £10,000 from the other to keep quiet about their paedophile interests.

One of the victims had £15,000 saved in an ISA and drew it out from the bank to give to the men after they stayed all night in his flat to ensure he paid up.

But the other did not have any money and when they suggested he should carry out a ram raid to get the cash he felt he had no alternative but to go to the police.

Foster and Webb, both 26, pleaded guilty to two charges of blackmail."

According to a declaration submitted by David Finkelhor, the director of the Crimes against Children Research Center and professor of sociology at the University of New Hampshire, sex crimes against children facilitated by technology constitute only one percent of all sex crimes committed against children; and of those arrested for technology-facilitated crimes against youth, only four percent are registered sex offenders. Between 2000 and 2010, there was a 50 percent decline in all unwanted sexual solicitations on the Internet. Researchers See Decline in Child Sexual Abuse Rate

"Anyone reading the headlines in recent weeks has come away with an unsettling message: Sexual predators seem to lurk everywhere.

Overall cases of child sexual abuse fell more than 60 percent from 1992 to 2010, according to David Finkelhor, a leading expert on sexual abuse who, with a colleague, Lisa Jones, has tracked the trend. The evidence for this decline comes from a variety of indicators, including national surveys of child abuse and crime victimization, crime statistics compiled by the F.B.I., analyses of data from the National Data Archive on Child Abuse and Neglect and annual surveys of grade school students in Minnesota, all pointing in the same direction.

From 1990 to 2010, for example, substantiated cases of sexual abuse dropped from 23 per 10,000 children under 18 to 8.6 per 10,000, a 62 percent decrease, with a 3 percent drop from 2009 to 2010, according to the researchers’ analysis of government data. The Minnesota Student Survey charted a 29 percent decline in reports of sexual abuse by an adult who was not a family member from 1992 to 2010 and a 28 percent drop in reports of sexual abuse by a family member. The majority of sexual abuse cases involve family members or acquaintances rather than strangers, studies have found."

S. Calif. man files claim after false porn charges

"A former prominent Democrat in San Bernardino who was wrongly accused of having child pornography while working as an aide to Congressman Joe Baca has filed a $7.5 million claim against the county.

The San Bernardino Sun reports (http://bit.ly/14QqacO) 61-year-old Samuel Clauder's March 28 claim names Deputy District Attorney Maryanne Choi, sheriff's Detective Michael Pelkey, and District Attorney Michael Ramos.

Clauder says he was left destitute after being falsely accused in 2009 by his son Trey Stancher.

Stancher later admitted to putting child porn on Clauder's computer to frame him after a forensics expert discovered the illegal images came from a peer-to-peer networking account belonging to Stancher.

Clauder was cleared of wrongdoing in October.

He has accused the district attorney's office of selective prosecution and has requested an FBI investigation."

Dad denies using daughter in child-porn extortion plot after professor's suicide

"FBI agents say a blackmail scheme concocted by another man who used photos of an underage girl in a catfish scam may have caused a Texas A&M professor to commit suicide.

A Louisiana man denied on Tuesday that he used his daughter to lure a college professor into a sexually explicit online relationship and then blackmailed him.

The professor, JAA, of Texas A&M University, jumped to his death from the roof of a campus parking garage in January after paying part of an alleged demand for $5,000, sending a text to the man saying "Killing myself now. And u will be prosecuted for black mail."

Authorities allege that A, 59, was one of many victims of the same scam by the man. The Associated Press isn't naming him to protect the identity of his daughter."

"ONLINE ULTIMATUM: Lewis Jones demanded £4,000 for his silence

A BLACKMAILER posed as a 14-year-old girl and threatened to expose a man he befriended online as a paedophile unless he paid him £4,000.

Lewis Jones sent Facebook messages to BK, in the West Midlands, pretending to be someone called Anna Smith, between May and June last year.

Newport Crown Court heard the messages were of a sexual nature and both parties sent intimate photos.

Jones, 22, of Libanus Fields, Pontllanfraith, sent Mr K message saying: “I am 14 years old and you are clearly trying to have sex with me, you are a paedophile.

“If you pay I won’t out you as a paedophile to friends and the police, which will ruin your life.”

He continued: “I hope you will take the easy way out and not the hard way, which will destroy your life.”"

County Durham blackmail threats end in jail

"A BLACKMAILER tried to extort £30,000 from a retired businessman by threatening to expose him as a paedophile.

Jacob Barton was yesterday jailed for three years and two months after a court heard of a concerted campaign that left his victim traumatised.

Barton made numerous phone calls to his victim, repeating the threats and warning he would report him to the police unless he was paid off.

He said he had video evidence and other proof to support his claims and even called at the victim’s County Durham home.

But, Durham Crown Court was told that the ex-businessman had taken advice and alerted the police.

When Barton knocked at the door he was greeted by an undercover police officer and, despite being stopped nearby after leaving, he claimed to be a door-to-door canvasser.

It was only several weeks later, aware he was being sought by police, that Barton handed himself in.

Paul Newcombe, prosecuting, said the extortion attempt was triggered after Barton was approached by a man who claimed his partner had been in a relationship with the businessman 28 years earlier, when she was about 16, or younger.

But Mr Newcombe told the court there was nothing to substantiate the slur and said the victim had led an unblemished life."
