Parents welcome decision to move paedophile [sic] from living near Peel Brow School and Nursery, Ramsbottom

"Emergency services, council officers and Six Town Housing staff were present at the demonstration, which passed off peacefully.

The man was subsequently moved out of the house and it was boarded up.

The protest was organised by Paul Honey, a parent with four daughters who lives on the Peel Brow Estate and who went from house-to-house collecting signatures.

Another of the parents involved in the protest was mum-of-three Janine Holt, who welcomed the decision to move the man.

She said: “It shouldn’t have happened in the first place, him living there, but it is a good result.

“The whole estate found out he was living there on Friday and by Monday he had gone.”

The 33-year-old man is believed to have been living at the property for approximately three months.

Ms Holt, whose 10-year-old daughter is a pupil at Peel Brow School, said when she first found out she was “absolutely disgusted”.

She added: “My daughter has to walk past that property every day to school, and it backs on to the playground.

“We were all ready to stop our kids going to school until he had gone.

“Since we found out we have not allowed our children to play out in the street.”

Another parent, Becci Mills, aged 33, who also has a five-year-old who goes to Peel Brow School, said: “It’s really scary as parents.

“I just can’t believe that they put him on this estate, with kids and especially near the school.

“We have all stuck together and we have got what we wanted.”

Six Town Housing said it only manages properties, and that Bury Council is responsible for where residents are placed.

A council spokesman said: “We can confirm that the family living at this address have been moved out into temporary accommodation and we will be looking at options to rehouse them.

“We are working with a range of partners to ensure the safety of the family and the community.”"

Father who shot dead his daughter's sexual abuser is sentenced to 40 years in jail after pleading guilty to save her from testifying [about what?]

"The shooting, Ms Maynor said, was prompted by something she said to her father about the abuse.

On the way to Brooks' home, Maynor also fired his gun into a convenience store when he spotted a man who had been dating his stepdaughter and allegedly abused her.

The man was able to hide and was unharmed. Ms Maynor's father was sentenced to 20 years for attempted murder in that particular shooting."

Father jailed for 40 years after he shot dead his daughter's sex attacker 

"On June 8, 2014, Jay and Julia saw each other. Jay could see Julia was hurting. She said something about the abuse – something neither her or Jay has shared publicly. All Julia has revealed is that it was said ‘in anger’. But it was enough to make Jay snap. He rushed out to his motorbike and sped off – with payback on his mind, and a gun in his pocket.

As he passed a convenience store, he spotted one of his daughter’s ex-boyfriends. Allegedly, he’d mistreated Julia when they were together. In a rage, Jay fired his weapon at him but the man hid and dodged the bullets. But that wasn’t Jay’s mission and he got back on track.

The father took off to where Raymond was living in Berlin, Alabama. Raymond was standing in his front yard when Jay aimed and fired two shots. Raymond dropped dead. Jay was arrested later that day and charged with first-degree murder."

Charity Christmas card blows secret cover of Vanessa George case child abuser

"Mr Hurren, 45, said: he Googled his neighbour and found her picture.

He said: "None of us really wanted to speak to her after we found out. I sent her a Facebook message saying 'hello Tracy Lyons' so that she knew we all knew about her and we didn't have to face her.

"Then on Christmas Eve another neighbour found out. His grandchildren come round often, so he was upset.

"Police arrived and went into her property. Twenty minutes later a taxi arrived and they came out with boxes and her pets.

400 violent attacks on registered sex offenders in five years as people take law into own hands

"More than 400 violent attacks have taken place on sex offenders in the past five years.

Figures revealed under the Freedom of Information Act show vigilantes in Avon and Somerset could have taken the law into their own hands 406 times.

The statistic comes as more paedophiles are being exposed via the internet – with some being targeted by vigilante groups organising sting operations.

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that in 2015 there were 93 attacks on registered sex offenders."

Is surgical castration is an ethical option for sex offenders?

"The German and Czech governments allow sex offenders to be surgically castrated – provided that they give informed consent to the procedure. This has put them at loggerheads with the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT). It has denounced the practice as degrading treatment which should be ended immediately.

Writing in the Journal of Medical Ethics, John McMillan, of the University of Otago, in New Zealand, argues that the CPT is mistaken. All the evidence shows that prisoners are not coerced and that they choose this option freely [sic] in an effort to pull their damaged lives together.

There are various options open to sex offenders who want physiological assistance in controlling their sex drive. Chemical castration is reversible – but more expensive. The Czech government says that it cannot afford it. An orchidectomy is the surgical removal of the testes. This is uncommon nowadays."
