Lydia Does Not Yet Fancy The Idea Of Penises

Children of 12 exposed to explicit conversations on webcam chat sites

">Up to [?] 50 per cents [sic] of live video streams on chat sites contain porn.
>Most internet porn filters do not block online chat rooms.

Children as young as 12 are being subjected [sic] to obscene images and explicit conversations on free video chat websites, child safety [sic] experts [sic] warn.

The Daily Mail found up to [?] 50 per cent of the live video streams on these websites contain nudity or graphic acts.

Parents are often unaware of this danger [sic] in their own homes because most internet filters fail to block the sites."

Comment:

Maybe Lydia never will.
Maybe Lydia is a (proto)lesbian.
Maybe Lydia is a bit of a wimp, who needs to shape up or ship out.
Maybe the story, as given, is BS.
Maybe, in essence, Psychotherapy is BS.

What are facts, is that there is no danger, no harm, no trauma ... only learning, some frowns and giggles, and, maybe, a few orgasms (if, perhaps, a little one-sided).

There are many more possibilities, than Omegle, Streamberry and ChatRandom ... and, guess what? .... the kids choose to go and watch and play.

Such are the glorious wonders of the internet; now time to repeal some laws.

If you do not like it, control your childrens' access to adult domains .... and make a few more Lydias, in doing so.

Editorial: Child pornography [article nothing to do with IIOC] is a menace [sic] the law can't prevent

"However unpopular it makes them, parents have to be vigilant – intrusive even – about what information their children are sharing with others.

They have to get tough in insisting on the constant use of strict filters on smartphones and computers.

For the most part children are several steps ahead of adults in computer technology, so monitoring what children are looking at is always going to be hard.

The unpalatable alternative is just to give up, and abandon the hope that we can make more of a collective effort to protect children from this insidious menace [sic]."

Parenting and Pornography

"As pornography becomes more available to youngsters through the internet and mobiles, Mariella Frostrup and guests discuss how we can best equip the next generation to deal with it.

Reports show that the numbers of children accessing explicit sexual images are growing. There's increasing concern that youngsters who watch pornography regularly may be tempted to act out scenes of abuse on other children, and that many kids' ideas about relationships and bodies are being affected by the images they are watching."

"The cable network is developing a new, similarly themed show with host John Walsh.

Lifetime has opted to cancel the long-running series after 25 seasons, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. As first reported by TV Guide Magazine, the John Walsh-hosted effort may be shopped elsewhere.

Sources tell THR that AMW's studio 20th Television and Walsh's production company will likely explore their options to find the crime-fighting franchise a new home. Fox canceled it in 2011 citing soft ratings."

Texas sex offenders in sight of rare policy win

"County Texas District Attorney Carlos Valdez looks at one of the signs that District Judge Manuel Banales ordered 21 registered sex offenders to place in their yards in Corpus Christi, Texas.

While statehouses nationwide work on legislation aimed at curbing how and where sex offenders can live and work, a proposal in Texas that would strip employment information from the state’s sex offender registry is being cheered by those on the list as a minor but extraordinary easing of the law.

Four convicted sex offenders huddled in a busy hallway at the Texas Capitol, congratulating each other for going public and testifying against a bill that would plaster their criminal past on their Facebook profiles.

As expected, not everyone was moved by their objections.

"I don't feel bad for the guys that came in here whining," Republican state Rep. Steve Toth said after the men had left the room at a recent House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee meeting. A Democrat switched on her microphone to voice on the record that she, too, had no sympathy.

In the Texas Legislature and statehouses nationwide, bills aimed at curbing how and where sex offenders can live and work are routine. But for the 72,000 registered sex offenders in Texas this year, there is optimism. A legislative victory is in sight, and it's not for sinking a fresh round of get-tougher proposals — but scaling back one already in place.

Pushing forward what advocates say would mark a minor but extraordinary softening of the state's sex offender laws, the GOP-controlled Senate has passed a bill to remove employer information from Texas' online sex offender registry."

Intellectual Blindspots

Censoring Sex Research

"The Debate over Male Intergenerational Relations

This volume sheds light on one of the most explosive episodes of censure of academic scholarship in recent decades. Bruce Rind, a former psychology professor at Temple University, investigated sexual relations between male adults and adolescents through history and across cultures, from highly institutionalized relationships in Ancient Greece and Rome, to 33 contemporary cultures including the USA, and among various species. His conclusions that these relations, when consensual, are not always negative was radical, but based in his research findings. Even before publication of an invited article on the topic, he was subjected to intensive attacks, censured, and censored. This book presents a substantially extended version of Rind’s original, unpublished article, plus 12 scholarly responses to his work that argue for or against Rind’s conclusions or offer useful context on his work. For anyone interested in sex research and the academic freedom issues surrounding it, whether supportive of or vehemently opposed to Rind’s ideas, this book is a must-read.

John Ward Finally Shows His True Colours

John Ward - Talking Offensive and Dangerous Bollocks In 4D

We had to wait a little time ...
"I have only ever interviewed three convicted paedophiles [sic - please name them, John]. You have to have done this to realise what we ['we'? John, are you, somehow, special?] are dealing with here.

Child molesters [ah, not Paedophiles, then, John] tend [sic] to have no remorse about their activities [incorrect, some do not, same for any type of offender]. They shun attempts at redemption [incorrect, some do not, same for any type of offender], and as yet no system or method of curing [there is no disease, John] their delusional [incorrect] illness [there may be a 'disorder', but, that is not what you mean, is it, John?] has been found. [there is no disease, John, do not hold your breath on that one - then again, perhaps you should ;)]

Paedophiles [sic] believe that they are right and we are wrong [about what John? ... but, then, such are moral decisions], and that the children usually [sic] enjoy the sexual activity [like any activity, it ranges from glorious pleasure, through ambivalence, to disgust - such are human beings].

Having seen pictures of abuse given to me by helpful police [!?  - perhaps you would like to share their identities, John?] in the past (and the ordinary ranks are full of disgusted and dedicated coppers) I can assure you that only a seriously deranged mind* [sic] could believe the children enjoy it [ah, because, the cherry-picked images, you were shown, are representative of most images (and most experiences), right, John?].

The rate of suicide before the age of 35 among abuse victims is horrendous [we are sure, if it exists, you can point us to any evidence (we know you cannot provide proof) of a causal connection - can you John?]

Paedophiles [sic] are usually sadistic sexual psychopaths [offensively incorrect, a tiny minority are, same for any type of offender], and they destroy lives wherever they go. [we are sure, if it exists, you can point us to any evidence (we know you cannot provide proof) of a causal connection - can you John?]

Establishments throughout the world need to be shaken very hard [how does that work, John?], and made [?] to realise that those they protect [who, John?] are – at least indirectly – killers [now you are just ranting, John]. Some senior Conservative and Labour politicians are, right now, accessories to murder. [ditto]

As long as we in Britain fail to deal with this [with what, John?] ruthlessly and without favour [oh dear, sounds like a cull], we have no right to use the term ‘civilised’ about ourselves."[so, what are your detailed recommendations, John?]

http://hat4uk.wordpress.com/2013/03/28/the-paedofile-a-conflict-of-interest-waiting-to-become-a-scandal/

We will direct John to this thread, of course, but, we expect that he will fail to allow our blog reply; such are the ignorant and dangerous, moral entrepreneuristic zealots.

Always best to out them, though.

MP turns herself in for child porn offence

"A Swedish parliamentarian has reported herself to the police for possessing child pornography, in a bid to get Swedes to question the current laws.

Moderate Party MP Maria Abrahamsson chose on Wednesday to tell Swedish police that she may have child pornography at home. She told them that she had a copy of the Dagens Nyheter (DN) newspaper, which last weekend contained an illustration showing a child surrounded by half-naked men.

Abrahamsson is a known critic of the current Swedish law, which makes no distinction between photographs depicting sexual violation or assault of a child or children and illustrations showing similar scenarios.

According to the Svenska Dagbladet (SVD) newspaper, Abrahamsson petitioned parliament last autumn to amend the text of the law. She argued it should distinguish between photography and non-photographic art."

Lawyers angry at sex offender law change

"CRIMINAL lawyers in the Northern Territory have criticised new laws that could see some sex offenders locked up indefinitely.

The Serious Sex Offenders Act was passed by the NT parliament on Tuesday night and drew immediate criticism.

The president of the Criminal Lawyers Association of the Northern Territory, Russell Goldflam, attacked the new law.

"You cannot construct a criminal justice system on the basis of popular sentiment, it doesn't work that way," Mr Goldflam said.

The act allows for the attorney general or director of public prosecutions to apply to have the Supreme Court rule on whether serious sex offenders should remain in prison after they have completed their sentence."

Paedo campaigner's 'despicable' double life revealed

"An anti-paedophile campaigner who launched Britain’s biggest public database to shame convicted perverts is a serial THUG.

Chris Wittwer’s website of more than 12,000 sex offenders has been visited more than a million times in the past year.

But the ex-Army chef, 35, was jailed for 10 months this week after he led a 25-strong mob in an attack on four rival football fans in Exeter, Devon. A mum pushing a pram had to shield her child from the melee.

Wittwer, who claims to have been abused as a boy, received a three-year football match ban in 2004 for threatening a rival fan, Exeter Crown Court heard. He was convicted of affray in 2007.

Children’s charity Kidscape last night said his “despicable double life” had “betrayed” parents who backed him."

Despite Increase In Global Child Protection Laws Many Countries Still Do Not Consider Child Pornography A Crime

"Artist Jeff Koons and the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children Say Much More Needs to be Done to Protect Children

During the past seven years, 100 countries have enacted new laws to protect [sic] children from child pornography. However, according to the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), 53 countries still have no law and do not consider child pornography a crime.

The findings are from a new study conducted by The Koons Family Institute on International Law & Policy, founded by world-renowned artist Jeff Koons, which operates as ICMEC's research arm. The new study, "Child Pornography: Model Legislation & Global Review, 7th Edition", is a component of the global campaign against child pornography launched by ICMEC in 2006 to persuade governments and parliaments around the world to change and enact new laws to better protect children [sic]."

"In 1991, he married Hungarian-born naturalized-Italian pornography star Cicciolina (Ilona Staller) who for five years (1987–1992) pursued an alternate career as a member of the Italian parliament. While they still maintained a place in Manhattan, Koons and Ilona lived in Munich. In 1992, they had a son, Ludwig.

The marriage ended soon afterward amid allegations that Koons had subjected Staller to physical and emotional abuse. They agreed to joint custody of the child, but Staller left to Rome with the child, where mother and son remain.

A long custody battle ensued with the award of sole custody to Koons by the U.S. court in 1998, which had also dissolved the marriage. However, he ended up losing custody when the case went to Italy's Supreme Court.

In 2008, Staller filed suit against Koons for failing to pay child support."

Julie Burchill entitled to 'offend' transsexuals, press watchdog rules

"Julie Burchill was entitled to write a controversial article about transsexuals because she was expressing her opinion, the Press Complaints Commission has ruled.

Burchill, pictured, launched the attack in defence of her friend and fellow writer Suzanne Moore.

The newspaper watchdog rejected claims that the columnist's description of transgender people as "d**** in chicks' clothing" and “a bunch of bed-wetters in bad wigs” was inaccurate or misleading.

It was “clear” from the tone of the article that Miss Burchill was using the phrases to voice her views, the regulator said, adding that the comments were "clearly distinguished from fact"

The article did not breach the PCC’s rules on discrimination because Miss Burchill did not single out any individuals, but referred “to transgender people generally", a ruling by the watchdog said."

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/9954733/Julie-Burchill-entitled-to-offend-transsexuals-press-watchdog-rules.html

Comment:

Few support freedom of speech, as much as we do, but, it is such inconsistencies, in logic, interpretation and decision (this stems from the PCC's media-protecting 'Code of Practice'), which has led to their downfall.

In doing so, due to their past ineffectiveness (in particular, against bullying, corrupt, lying and dangerous 'journalists'), this has led to the post-Leveson cull, which the media are now whining about; the PCC is, predominantly, the media and their associates.

Get them out, as soon as is possible, so that a consistent, agreed and evidenced-based approach may be adopted.

Criminal record checks to be relaxed

"CRB information file Civil liberties groups are expected to welcome the judgement

Thousands of job applicants will no longer have to face their criminal past being disclosed to employers, under changes announced by the Home Office.

Old and minor cautions and convictions will be filtered out of the information revealed in applications for jobs in England and Wales.

It follows a Court of Appeal ruling in January that blanket checks did not comply with human rights laws.

All serious violent and sexual offences will continue to be disclosed.

Under the proposed legislation, convictions resulting in a non-custodial sentence will be filtered from record checks after 11 years for adults and five and a half years for young offenders.

Cautions will be filtered from record checks by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), formerly known as the Criminal Records Bureau, after six years for adults and two years for young offenders."

No charges against ex-BBC producer Wilfred De'Ath

"No charges will be brought against a former BBC producer arrested in connection with the inquiry into abuse claims made against Jimmy Savile.

Wilfred De'Ath was arrested last year in Cambridgeshire over an allegation of indecent assault on a girl in the 60s."

Savile suspect: 'Inquiry has gone too far'

"A former BBC producer who was released without charge yesterday after being arrested by detectives investigating the Jimmy Savile abuse scandal has said the police operation has "gone too far".

Wilfred De'Ath, who has always denied any wrongdoing, was arrested last year in Cambridgeshire over an allegation of indecent assault on a girl in the 60s. But the complainant has since withdrawn her statement, said Alison Saunders, chief crown prosecutor for CPS London.

He told the Today programme's John Humphrys that he believed the police were over-compensating now because they failed to get Savile at the time and said that the investigation, codenamed Operation Yewtree, was "getting silly"."

Wilfred De’Ath – One Hypocritical Old Goat

"So the first of the Yewtree branches has crashed to the ground, a sound virtually unheard in the forest of bad news today.

The ‘famous actress’ (I had to look her up such a household name was she…) (we are not allowed to mention her name – her publicist must be devastated) who alleged that Wilfred De’Ath (I definitely had to look him up) might have fondled her when she might have been a teenager in it might have been a cinema, has decided to withdraw her allegation. She still maintains it is true, but feels that she will be lonely in court, since no one else has come forward with similar allegations about the same man. She only came forward to Yewtree, she says, in the hope that it might give others the courage to come forward.

She is of course, an employee of ITV, the company which paid Mark Williams-Thomas to make the ‘Exposure’ programme, on which Wilfred De’Ath was such a willing witness against the ‘disgusting behaviour’ of Jimmy Savile."

YEW-TURN – SUDDEN DE’ATH

"Scotland Yard attempted to dump news of the their case against Wilfred De’Ath being dropped due to the sole complainant withdrawing her statement very quietly. Unfortunately, amongst the bigger news of widespread legalised theft in Cyprus and ‘Teflon Boris’ vs Eddie Mair it was noticed by a few pesky truth-seekers. And, my, what a tangled little web of intrigue it is.

For a deeper analysis of Wilfred De’Aths contribution to Mark Williams-Thomas’ shallow character assassination of the late Sir Jimmy Savile I will guide readers to this EXPOSITION."

Australian arrested: the mainstream media is right not to name him for now

"Their principle source of corroboration appears to be Mark Williams-Thomas, a former UK detective specialising in major sex crimes, who has since become a media personality and television criminology expert [sic].

So what exactly has Williams-Thomas said in relation to this latest arrest?

According to his Twitter account (Williams-Thomas is a prodigious tweeter) absolutely nothing.

He did tweet this in November last year:

This tweet – four months old – appears to be the primary source of corroboration used by bloggers for naming the suspect charged by last week, after the Metropolitan Police tweeted this ..."

Concerns raised over reliability of state's GPS monitoring of sex offenders

"AH sits on the steps near his Madison apartment shortly after release from a 51-day jail stay. From January 2011 to November 2012, H was arrested at least 12 times for parole violations related to his GPS monitor, spending 74 days in custody.

JM and AH were convicted of violent sex crimes and served many years in prison.

Now they are on parole, living in Madison neighborhoods, attending treatment groups and wearing Global Positioning System (GPS) ankle monitors — tracking that, under Wisconsin law, will continue for the rest of their lives.

But M,  H and 11 other offenders interviewed for this report say that Wisconsin’s GPS tracking system repeatedly fails, registering false alerts and landing the offenders in jail although they have done nothing wrong."

Family Sues to Force Sex Offender Neighbor to Buy Its House

"A Pennsylvania family has sued in an attempt to force its sex offender neighbor to buy the family's house, where the family claims its "trapped" after he was convicted of sexually assaulting their daughter.

The lawsuit was filed in Lehigh County by the child's parents.

OLB, 65, pleaded guilty in 2011 to indecent assault of a child under the age of 13, and was sentenced to three to 23 months in prison. He served time, and upon his release, was forced to register as a sex offender.

The family claims that its home's proximity to a registered sex offender makes it "virtually unmarketable." The parents also claim they feel "trapped" living next door to the man who violated their daughter."

Michigan sex offenders could face new fees

"Bill stirs debate over who should pay for registry

A bill to require the more than 40,000 people on Michigan’s sex offender registry to pay an annual fee is igniting a debate over who should bear the costs for operating and maintaining the state’s system used to track offenders.

Registered sex offenders already are required to pay a one-time $50 fee, but some lawmakers want to charge them $50 every year to cover the $600,000 a year cost to operate the database. The state says the move could bring in about $540,000 more in revenue annually.

Sex offenders “put themselves onto this registry by their actions,” [uh, no, you did, when you chose to prosecute them] said Republican Sen. Rick Jones of Grand Ledge, who is sponsoring the legislation that is headed to the Senate floor, but not yet scheduled for a vote. “Therefore, they need to pay a fee to maintain it.”" [uh, no, you do, you made the laws, not them]

Task force: Sex offender restrictions pointless

"Harsh local restrictions on where sex offenders can live should be lifted, the Palm Beach County public defender said.

And prosecutors and law enforcement agreed.

Their consensus is a turn in the way safety officials think about regulating the movements of the most restricted class of ex-convicts. Dozens of sex offenders are homeless in Palm Beach County, sleeping outside on benches or under foliage, because living nowhere is easier than living somewhere.

Meanwhile, more than 100 sex offenders populate a remote cluster of duplexes, surrounded by sugar cane, two miles outside Pahokee. Known as Miracle Village, it is perhaps the most welcoming community for sex offenders in South Florida.

"Any laws about public safety should be grounded in evidence-based policies, not by hysteria and misinformation," said Gail Colletta, president of the Florida Action Committee, which lobbies for restrictions that are based on the risk posed by each offender."

Probation officers face social media gag as outsourcing row rumbles on

"Justice secretary tells staff they risk disciplinary action if they publicly 'undermine' plan to outsource their work with offenders

Probation officers have been warned that failure to comply with the social media gag could result in suspension.

The justice secretary, Chris Grayling, has issued instructions that probation officers face the risk of disciplinary action if they publicly criticise on Twitter or other social media his plans to outsource 70% of their work with offenders.

The wide-ranging gag includes "any comments that are made in criticism or designed to undermine the justice secretary's policy or actions", and even warns that retweeting others' comments will be taken as "incitement or approval".

The ban was announced by Michael Spurr, the chief executive of the national offender management service, which runs prisons and probation, in a recent teleconference call with probation trust chief executives.

"He advised that the government are unhappy with CEOs and other senior managers being critical of government policy, regarding Transforming Rehabilitation on Twitter," said one probation trust senior manager.

"He told them to behave like civil servants as they are being paid by the government. So much for free speech and democracy. It seems government policy cannot be questioned in public arenas. I am furious that staff and managers are effectively being gagged in asking questions and objecting to the direction of travel.""

SpotOn NYC: Communication and the brain – Don’t Worry, It’s Science: There’s A Brain Scan

"When writing about anything pertaining to psychology or human nature, people love nothing more than a brain image lit up like a Christmas tree. These omnipresent images have been mockingly termed “brain porn”, defined by journalist Alissa Quart as a “willingness to accept seemingly neuroscientific explanations for nearly everything.”

According to a team of British scientists led by Cliodhna O’Connor, many popular science articles will include “logically irrelevant neuroscience information” intended to “imbue an argument with authoritative, scientific credibility” (McCabe & Castel, 2008; O’Connor et al., 2012). You might see scientists or science writers displaying neuroimaging data as proof that their claims are objective or real."

Brain scans predict which criminals are more likely to reoffend

"Neuroimaging 'biomarker' linked to rearrest after incarceration

Activity in a particular region of the cortex could tell whether a convict is likely to get in trouble again.

In a twist that evokes the dystopian science fiction of writer Philip K. Dick, neuroscientists have found a way to predict whether convicted felons are likely to commit crimes again from looking at their brain scans. Convicts showing low activity in a brain region associated with decision-making and action are more likely to be arrested again, and sooner."

Brain Scans Predict Which Criminals Are Most Likely to Reoffend

"Brain scans of convicted felons can predict which ones are most likely to get arrested after they get out of prison, scientists have found in a study of 96 male offenders.

“It’s the first time brain scans have been used to predict recidivism,” said neuroscientist Kent Kiehl of the Mind Research Network in Albuquerque, New Mexico, who led the new study. Even so, Kiehl and others caution that the method is nowhere near ready to be used in real-life decisions about sentencing or parole."

The Right To Have Access To Ideas And Information Regardless Of Their Social Or Moral Worth Is A Fundamental One

Monday 18 March 2013

So, should porn be censored?

"Those who insist that porn should be censored or regulated claim that it sexualises children and promotes immoral behaviour. Others are happy to live with ‘healthy’ adult porn but want to ban porn which degrades women or celebrates sexual violence. Some are comfortable with all sorts of obscenity but feel that child porn must be criminalised.

As someone who takes freedom of speech and of expression seriously, I reject any form of censorship – including of obscene material. The right to have access to ideas and information regardless of their social or moral worth is a fundamental one. Those who, like me, believe the world would be a better place if we didn’t have the industrialisation of porn should counter this phenomenon by challenging the culture that underpins it, not through censorship."

"Pressure: Girls feel like they have to resemble porn stars [yuk]

Girls are under increasing pressure to look like porn stars due to the negative impact pornography has had on boys’ idea of what the opposite sex should look like, it has been claimed.

Dad denies using daughter in child-porn extortion plot after professor's suicide

"FBI agents say a blackmail scheme concocted by another man who used photos of an underage girl in a catfish scam may have caused a Texas A&M professor to commit suicide.

A Louisiana man denied on Tuesday that he used his daughter to lure a college professor into a sexually explicit online relationship and then blackmailed him.

The professor, JAA, of Texas A&M University, jumped to his death from the roof of a campus parking garage in January after paying part of an alleged demand for $5,000, sending a text to the man saying "Killing myself now. And u will be prosecuted for black mail."

Authorities allege that A, 59, was one of many victims of the same scam by the man. The Associated Press isn't naming him to protect the identity of his daughter."

Dutch judiciary accidentally 'spread child porn' [sic]

"The Dutch judiciary was on Friday itself facing possible criminal prosecution after it emerged that it had for years inadvertently left the filenames of child pornography on its website.

The scandal erupted after state broadcaster NOS on Thursday reported that some court judgements had not been properly redacted before being published on the rechtspraak.nl website, leaving distinctive filenames visible.

The actual photo and film files could then easily be found [sic] on the Internet using a search engine.

NOS informed the judiciary before the report was broadcast and they "decided to review all published judgements", or around 250,000, Council for the Judiciary spokesman Michiel Boer told AFP.

The overarching Council for the Judiciary is part of the judiciary and its responsibilities include the rechtspraak.nl website.

"We found in total around 80 judgements containing filenames, notably with the extensions .jpg, .mpg or .avi," Boer said, adding that all judgements had now been properly redacted.

Redacting "is a job carried out by people, so these are human errors," Boer said.

The Netherlands judiciary publishes its judgements online since 1999 and the redaction of file names related to child pornography was made mandatory in 2008."

Hundreds of paedophiles [sic] who view child porn online avoid criminal charges every year, a Mirror investigation has found.

Even more are having cases against them dropped as officers decide to take no further action – NFA.

Of 1,348 child-porn arrests in the past year across 25 of the UK’s 43 police forces, 895 suspects were charged – equivalent to 66%, or two-thirds.

Another 195 – or 14.5% – were cautioned and 258 cases, or 19%, were NFA. More suspects were cautioned or faced no further action than were charged in three forces – Avon and Somerset, West Midlands and Durham – figures for 2011/12 show."

Child porn up ‘exponentially’ online

"The amount of child abuse imagery on the internet has increased “exponentially” and is expected to grow even more, the EU police agency has warned.

"Europol predicted “higher levels of demand” for new child abuse material, fuelled by continued advances in technology. This includes the “proliferation” of live video streaming which does not necessitate the actual downloading of material, and the expansion of cloud computing.

The EU Serious and Organised Crime Threat Assessment, published by Europol, said this is only one area of criminal activity that is set to worsen.

The agency said cyber crime will further develop as a “serious threat to society” and economic crimes, such as counterfeiting of legal products, and frauds will emerge as significant threats, aided by the ongoing financial crisis."

Official: Timely child porn prosecution a key

"In 2006, U.S. attorneys handled 82.8 percent more child pornography cases than they did in 1994.

Olson says the reason for the increase is likely due to the prevalence of child pornography and easy access to it on the Internet."

Teachers in England told to search students’ cell phones for pornography in bid to clampdown on ‘sexting’

"Guidance issued to schools in England this week urges teachers to use tough new powers to seize devices suspected of being used to share explicit photos or videos.

Teachers are being told to confiscate pupils’ cell phones and search devices for pornography as part of a new clampdown on “sexting.”

Guidance issued to schools in England this week urges teachers to use tough new powers to seize devices suspected of being used to share explicit photos or videos.

Teenage girls in particular face pressure from classmates to provide sexually explicit pictures of themselves.

Schools should consider informing the police over any extreme material found on pupils’ phones and ensure that images are taken off social networking websites. The document also tells schools to offer counselling to pupils featured in images and contact parents “so that they can keep a watchful eye over their child”."

Security Settings in File-Sharing Software May Lead to Unintended Sharing of Child Pornography

"Peer-to-peer or P2P file-sharing software can get you into a lot of trouble - including criminal trouble - if you are not careful about your privacy settings.

Peer-to-peer or P2P file-sharing software allows computer users to remotely share files, including images and videos, with other users across the world with the same software installed. It may seem harmless, but it can get you into a lot of trouble - including criminal trouble - if you are not careful about your privacy settings.

Whether you were using Limewire, Shareaza, BitTorrent, Kazaa or another file-sharing program, making sure that your security settings are properly set may save you from dealing with the North Carolina or federal authorities. Without properly setting up your P2P software to keep private files private, you may unintentionally end up sharing content that was meant for no one but yourself. If that content contains illegal child pornography, you can quickly find yourself facing serious distribution of child pornography charges rather than simply possession charges."
