Man tells deputies he killed Union County couple because victim was sex offender

"A man that sheriff’s deputies say killed a Union County couple this weekend told officers that he did so because one of the victims was a registered sex offender.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office charged 30-year-old Jeremy Moody and his wife 36-year-old Christine Moody, both of Lockhart, with two counts of murder Wednesday in the deaths of CBP, 59, and his wife, GP, 51.

In a press conference, Union County Sheriff David Taylor said Moody told officers that he killed BP because the man was a sex offender. Deputies do not believe there was a motive for Mrs. P’s killing other than the fact that she was his wife.

“He also told us that it was a good thing we arrested him last night because he had planned to kill another sex offender register today,” Taylor said. Taylor said Moody told investigators that he planned to commit the crime last year, but decided against it."

Greater Manchester Police is to start recording violent assaults on goths as hate crimes.

For some people, the announcement that Greater Manchester Police is to start recording violent assaults on goths, heavy metal fans and members of other easily-identifiable subcultures as "hate crimes" is evidence that the concept of hate crime has Gone Too Far.

Ken Macdonald, the former Director of Public Prosecutions, said on Radio 4's Today this morning that the legally recognised categories of race, religion, disability, sexual orientation and transgender identity represented "lines in the sand", because these were "crimes that threaten social cohesion as a whole and therefore national life." He was worried that extending the notion to members of other groups represented a "watering down" of the concept."
