Hunt gets prison time for fire at sex offender’s home 

"A man who set fire to a registered sex offender’s residence was sentenced Monday to three years in prison. T.J. Hunt, along with Justin Baker, set fire to the home where JJ was staying.

J is a registered sex offender, had moved in shortly before the Nov. 2 fire.

Police said they set the fire because they didn’t want a sex offender living there.

Hunt was also placed on extended supervision for seven years. Baker was sentenced to nine months in jail, a $500 fine, and community service."

Ohio will begin tracking arsonists this summer through a new registry similar to the one used to track sex offenders.

A law passed last year by the General Assembly will require people convicted of arson-related offenses to register at their local sheriff's office each year for at least 10 years. Failing to register will be a felony.

Supporters tout the measure as a tool for law enforcement. Critics argue, among other points, that the registry will be a burden for sheriffs already charged with keeping the sex-offender registry."

Burke Signs On As Co-Sponsor of Gang Registry Bill

"Bill would make Illinois's gang database accessible to the public, but critics say bill is too vague about who gets entered into system.

State Rep. Kelly Burke (D-36th District) signed on as a co-sponsor to HB 3082, a bill that would open the Illinois State Police’s gang member database to the public.

HB 3082, State Police Gang Database, was introduced by Rep. Deborah Mell (D-40th District) of the city’s Northwest Side, and is currently before the state house rules committee.

Illinois’s Statewide Organized Criminal Gang Database is currently available only to prosecutors, police and other statewide law enforcement agencies.

Mell would like to list the names of known and alleged gang members, including their last known address, photos, tattoos, other physical marks and favorite hangouts.

The registry is intended to help parents determine if gang members are living in their neighborhoods, and keep track of their children's associates."

Paedo campaigner's 'despicable' double life revealed

"An anti-paedophile campaigner who launched Britain’s biggest public ­database to shame convicted ­perverts is a serial THUG.

Chris Wittwer’s website of more than 12,000 sex offenders has been visited more than a million times in the past year.

But the ex-Army chef, 35, was jailed for 10 months this week after he led a 25-strong mob in an attack on four rival football fans in Exeter, Devon. A mum pushing a pram had to shield her child from the melee.

Wittwer, who claims to have been abused as a boy, received a three-year football match ban in 2004 for threatening a rival fan, Exeter Crown Court heard. He was convicted of affray in 2007.

Children’s charity Kidscape last night said his “despicable double life” had “betrayed” parents who backed him."
