Man admits threatening sex offender [sic] neighbour

A Carleton man has been handed a community sentence [laughable] for threatening to set fire to the flat belonging to a convicted sex offender [sic].

Jonathan Paul Brewin, 29, of Carleton Mill, was annoyed that a man living nearby had not been sent to prison for possessing indecent images of children, Skipton magistrates were told.

Brewin launched a verbal attack on the other man, MJ, when their taxis arrived back in Carleton at the same time on February 2 after nights out with friends in Skipton, the court heard.

He told Mr J, who received a community sentence for possessing indecent images in December, 2011, that people like him should not live in Carleton.

He added that if he saw him in the local pub he would “rip him to pieces” and that if he did not move out within three weeks he would burn his flat down.

Prosecuting, Caroline Midgley said the confrontation lasted about 15 minutes and left Mr J feeling shaken.

Brewin, a man of previous good character, felt strongly about convicted sex offenders and had been annoyed to see Mr J out enjoying himself."

Sex offender moves in, residents voice concerns

“It is not the stranger in the park — it is the people you have in your home,” Pearson said. “The people most likely to abuse a child are the ones with the most opportunity, most access and most trust. Abusers can be parents, step-parents, uncles, aunts, step-siblings, baby sitters, tutors and family friends.”"

Woman wins sex offender court battle

"A VULNERABLE woman who married a sex offender behind bars has won her battle to stop York social workers intervening in their relationship.

In a landmark ruling, top judges have upheld the learning- disabled woman’s right to be allowed to live with the man.

They said that although it might be “extremely unwise” for her to cohabit with him, the law simply had no power to stop her."

Warwickshire Police 'open justice' row after charged officer not named

"A police force appeared to abandon the concept of open justice tonight when it refused to name a suspect charged with theft after quietly changing its policy.

Warwickshire Police said the policy was “recently” introduced in the wake of the Leveson inquiry into press standards.

Warwickshire Police declined to name a retired officer who was charged with stealing £113,000 from the constabulary's former headquarters in Leek Wooton.

Critics attacked the development, understood to be the first such move by any police force in the country, arguing it undermined the UK's principle of open justice."

Ware sex offender sectioned indefinitely under Mental Health Act

"A SEX offender who breached a court order by having indecent pictures of boys on his mobile phone has been locked up under the Mental Health Act.

SH, from Ware, had posed on line as a 10-year-old and arranged to meet a 10-year-old boy in a park in Letchworth in 2011.

The boy’s father had become suspicious after seeing messages in which H said he liked boys in sports clothing and he liked to touch their private areas.

The police were called and, when H arrived at the park, officers were waiting for him and he was arrested."

Soldiers serve 'despite sex crimes'

"The Ministry of Defence says the armed forces have a zero tolerance approach to all forms of abuse including sexual offences

Twenty soldiers are continuing to serve in the British Army despite committing crimes that resulted in them being placed on the sex offenders' register, it has been revealed.

Ten servicemen convicted of a sexual offence in a civilian court, six convicted at Court Martial and four issued a police caution are still serving in the forces, the Ministry of Defence confirmed.

An MoD spokeswoman said: "While those found guilty of a sexual offence are normally discharged, each is dealt with on a case-by-case basis and in exceptional circumstances their retention can be approved."
