The Day The Whole Internet Was Censored, Using 'CP' As The Excuse (Again)

*****

Here We Go Again - Bing, Bong, Google, Giggle

http://therealosc.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/here-we-go-again-bing-bong-google-giggle.html

*****

Of course, anyone who is not lying, or has a modicum of knowledge and/or principles, knows, that these search terms would never bring up any potentially-illegal images, and have not been able to do so, for many years; knowing that, there is no intention, here or elsewhere, to do so. We do know, that they will be on 'the list'.

Bing, first. SafeSearch off. We could turn images off, but, we will take Microsoft's word for it, as a newbie will.

Web search ...

Much as before, now image/videos/news search ...

We have no idea what the 100,000 possible search terms could be !!!

Now, the zealots, profiteers and simpletons, will be jumping up-and-down, for joy, about that result (not that it stops anything, that really matters, of course).

However, the bonafide researcher and Libertarian should be very concerned, indeed.

Image searches lead, often more rapidly, to very valuable (re)sources ... for example, court documents, media reports, related cases and issues etc. etc. etc.

This is, of course, the (predicted and usual) danger of knee-jerk, blanket, censorship.

This is a private company, Microsoft, throwing the baby out with the bath water, for popularity and profit.

This is the false flag, which is (and has been, for a long time) to be used, for all topics, which are, or will be, deemed to be unacceptable, for our consumption.

This is where we are in 2013 ... and it has little to no point (as suggested), at all.

Next time, Google.

Online child safety [sic] – big things [sic] happening

"Pulling out the stops

Google and Microsoft have really pulled out the stops. This is a very impressive initiative. It is narrowing the spaces in which paedophiles [sic] and collectors of child abuse images [sic] can operate. The challenge now is to work out how to gauge the effectiveness of and learn from the various measures that are being put in place but I am sure there is a will so we can find a way.

The beginning of a new phase

This is unlikely to be the end of the story but there is no question we have reached an important milestone. There are still anxieties about the Darknet and the true extent to which it and the use of encryption may continue to frustrate law enforcement’s and everybody’s efforts. But we don’t always have to do the really hard stuff first. Dealing with the more open parts of the internet has to be a key priority precisely because it is so accessible and therefore has the greater potential to draw in new offenders. All the companies involved deserve a great deal of credit for their willingness to sail into these uncharted waters and so does Claire Perry MP and the Government as a whole for sticking with the issue in the way that they have. I await with interest to see how what is happening in the UK starts to roll out or impact other jurisdictions."

Laboring In The Shadows To Keep The Web Free Of Child Porn

"Internet search providers like Google and Microsoft are also investing in similar programs."

"The Microsoft system, known as PhotoDNA, was co-developed by a team at Dartmouth and has since been donated to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Earlier this year, Twitter began using it to scan every photo that's uploaded to its site.

The program works by scanning known images of child pornography and giving them a unique signature that goes into a database. If that image appears on another site, it is instantly flagged and removed. Google has its own proprietary tagging system that works in a similar way.

But in order for an image to be identified as child pornography in the first place, a person has to review it. The people who do that work for tech companies are employed all over the world, and very little is known about them, says Sarah Roberts of Western University in Ontario, Canada."

Efforts to end child pornography have been ineffective

"In continuing this internet blockade against child pornography, Google has also proposed a solution, a database of “encrypted” child porn images that is said to enable some companies and law enforcement to further collaborate on detecting and removing these photos from the possession of predators.

Google uses technology known as “hashing,” which is similar to Facebook’s photo tagging capabilities.

The software allows the company to tag images with an identification code that is reported and blocked by other companies when locating a duplicate image elsewhere on the web.

Ironically, Google, which is in the business of making news and information widely available, is creating a content blockade."

Innocent man commits suicide after paedophile accusation

"GS, 56, "became a hermit" after the allegations of sexual abuse of a young girl more than 20 years ago

Scene of suicide: Humber Bridge.

A man falsely accused of historical child abuse leapt to his death from a bridge, an inquest heard.

GS, 56, was accused last November of sexually abusing a young girl more than 20 years ago.

Police exonerated him but the dad-of-one became depressed.

His brother Michael told the hearing in Hull: “He became a hermit.”

Mr S, who lived in Hull city centre, left a suicide note before jumping from the Humber Bridge in June.

Verdict: Suicide."

Shy Keenan: Woman denies stalking and harassing campaigner

"Shy Keenan has campaigned to help [very debatable] child abuse victims

A woman has denied stalking and harassing child abuse campaigner Shy Keenan.

Ms Keenan, who lives near Colchester, Essex, is founder of The Phoenix Chief Advocates Consultancy, which helps victims of paedophiles [sic, in so many ways].

Penelope Mellor, 52, [redacted] Wolverhampton, is accused of posting "abusive" and "insulting" tweets about her.

She pleaded not guilty to the charges at Colchester Magistrates' Court.

Ms Mellor was bailed and is due to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on 10 February.

Ms Keenan detailed her own experience [really?] of suffering sexual abuse in her autobiography, Broken. [ah yes, still interesting]

She began an anti-bullying campaign this year, following the death of her 14-year-old son. [not so quiet, during that terrible loss]

Ms Mellor is accused of sending 415 tweets between 19 October 2012 and 15 March 2013, that "either made reference to or was abusive and or insulting towards" Ms Keenan.

She is also accused of sending material to Ms Keenan's associates and posting material online "which was considered unacceptable as criticism and personal in nature"."

A Legal System That Shrinks From Testing Witness Credibility Robustly Is Not An Authentic System Of Justice

11 November 2013

Believe the victim: a recipe for injustice

"The innocent suffer when we’re encouraged to believe all claimants.

The outraged reactions to newspaper reports of a recent debate at the London School of Economics entitled ‘Is Rape Different?’, at which I spoke, proved the point of my talk there about the prevailing ideology of victimisation. This ideology dominates official thinking about rape and sexual abuse to a point where the police actively solicit allegations with the promise, ‘You will be believed’. This militates against the idea that allegations need to be investigated.

The ‘you will be believed’ mantra also fosters an unreal expectation on the part of complainants, and the victim lobby, that their accounts should not be challenged or questioned robustly. The government is now piloting a scheme of ‘pre-trial’ cross-examination, in an attempt to shield complainants from the rigours of a criminal trial, ostensibly so as not to ‘re-traumatise victims’."
